Primary Maths Resources


Primary maths resources have a major role in numeracy. It is very important for children to understand and become proficient in the processes, concepts and skills of mathematics. To this end, mathematics needs to be presented in an interesting and enjoyable way, allowing children to actively participate in the learning process, thus building both confidence and a sense of achievement. There should be a strong emphasis on the development of mental arithmetic and providing opportunities for pupils to use and apply mathematics in real life situations.

Sudoku Colour
This is a great introduction to Sudoku for young children. They can progress to creating their own Sudoku grids, using resources such as coloured cubes and pegs to try out different permutations while they get themselves started.

Sudoku Number
This resource builds upon the Sudoku Colour resource. Instead of using colours to complete the grid, children use just 3 numbers to create a 3x3 Sudoku grid.

Challenge Cards
Each set of challenge cards are mathematics based and consist of 15 cards. There are 3 to an A4 page. Each Challenge Card is numbered. Just print, cut to size and laminate and you will have a useful resource to use in a wide variety of ways.

The Challenge Cards could be used as a write on wipe off activity or the children could copy them into their books.

The Challenge Cards could be used as an early morning activity for those who finish their work before others, or they could be used for 5 minute time fillers at any time of the day.
