Year 6 SATs


At the end of Key Stage 2 pupils take their Statutory Assessment Tests (SATs). The dates for these tests are set by the government and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). Key Stage 2 SATs 2012 (for all pupils who will be in Year 6 in May 2012) - dates to be confirmed.

The structure of Year 6 SATs is as follows:


Mathematics

 
Mental Paper
20 minutes
Paper A Calculator not allowed 45 minutes
Paper B Calculator allowed 45 minutes
 

English

 
Writing Long task 45 minutes
Writing Short task 20 minutes
Spelling
10 minutes
Reading
45 minutes + 15 minutes reading
 

National Curriculum Tests in Science at Key Stage 2 have been discontinued. Schools will use teacher assessment of pupils' attainment in science as the basis for reporting to parents. There will be a representative sample (approx 5% of Year 6 pupils) that will be required to take a statutory Science sample test.
